Additional Details

One of Mrs. Moore's "Dixie Series," this little book was meant to teach the children of the South not only the 3 "R's" but moral lessons about life and, of course, the war. Among the lessons: "This sad war is a bad thing . . . My papa went and died in the war" (page 23). "An enemy is one who hates us. The Yankees are enemies to the Southern people" (page 39). "It is not a sin to own slaves, but it is a very great sin to treat them cruelly" (page 37). Parrish & Willingham 7801.
